Matta Rice

Matta Rice, also known as Palakkadan Matta or Kerala Red Rice, is a traditional rice variety cultivated in the Palakkad district of Kerala, often referred to as the rice bowl of Kerala. The unique soil composition and climatic conditions of the Malabar region give this rice its distinct reddish-brown color, robust texture, and high nutritional value.

This rice is parboiled with its outer bran layer partially intact, which helps retain natural fiber, minerals, and essential nutrients. After cooking, Matta Rice remains firm, separate, and slightly chewy, with a mild earthy flavor that makes it ideal for wholesome and traditional meals.
